I’ve been living full-time on boats for nearly ten years; first on the canals of the UK, where we travelled the country from end to end, and more recently on our 39-foot, 1984 Najad ketch. From the start, my partner and I knew we wanted a boat without gas.
Freedom from gas on board
Gas on board can be one of the biggest risks, especially with older systems. It is also impractical. Our boat had very limited space for bottles, which meant running small cylinders and replacing them constantly. Sourcing gas abroad was expensive, inconsistent, and complicated by changing regulators and bottle types. For keen cooks who enjoy baking and hosting, it felt restrictive and unnecessary.

Building a better way
With a professional background in sustainability and a practical mindset, I designed and built the solution we now use every day: Curo — a stainless steel gimballed enclosure that houses a two-burner induction hob and a Panasonic combination oven. Curo is the first product we are making available through Omega Marine.
It uses proven off-the-shelf appliances that perform exceptionally well in a marine setting. The oven bakes bread with steam for a proper crust, cooks full meals, and doubles as a microwave. The induction hob heats pans instantly and gives precise control, while staying safe to touch as soon as it is switched off.
Tested at sea
In the past three years we have sailed from Sweden to Greece via the Atlantic, and for more than two years we have relied on Curo as full-time liveaboards, spending around 90% of our time at anchor. The system has been used daily in a wide range of conditions, and it has proved reliable, practical and robust. The gimbal is solid and far stronger than the original marine oven we removed, with a design that is simple, durable and ready for production.

Our philosophy
Simple: easy to install and straightforward to use.
Safe: no onboard gas, no naked flames, induction surfaces that are cool to touch once switched off.
Sustainable: part of the move towards fully electric cruising.
We manufacture in the UK and use quality components that have proved themselves at sea.
Where we are headed
Our first product, Curo, is a practical and affordable alternative to gas ovens on sailing yachts. This is only the beginning. Alongside product development, we are exploring a consultancy service to help owners understand how to electrify their galleys properly, from storage and generation through to system management.
By sharing both the product and the knowledge, we want to make fully electric cooking at sea a real option for more sailors.
